Properly Disclosing AI-Generated Content
Transparency about AI involvement is becoming a legal requirement and an ethical standard. Content credentials make AI disclosure verifiable and permanent.
Why AI Disclosure Matters
The EU AI Act (2024) requires clear labeling of AI-generated content. Similar regulations are emerging worldwide. Proper disclosure protects you legally and builds trust with your audience.
Types of AI Involvement
Fully AI Generated
Content created entirely by AI with minimal human input (prompts only).
AI Assisted
Human-created content enhanced or modified with AI tools.
Human Created
Content created entirely by humans without AI involvement.

C2PA Action Types
The C2PA standard defines specific action types for AI content:
c2pa.ai_generatedAI Generated
Content was created by an AI system
c2pa.createdHuman Created
Content was created by a human
c2pa.editedEdited
Content was modified (may include AI tools)
Digital Source Types
C2PA uses IPTC standard source types to classify content origin:
trainedAlgorithmicMedia
Generated by trained AI models (e.g., Midjourney, DALL-E)
compositeWithTrainedAlgorithmicMedia
Human content combined with AI-generated elements
digitalCapture
Captured directly from the real world (photography, recording)
Best Practices
Be honest. Accurately disclose all AI involvement, even partial use.
Be specific. Name the AI tools used, not just "AI-generated".
Be consistent. Apply the same disclosure standards across all your content.
Sign everything. Create credentials for all content, including human-made work.
Legal Considerations
False AI disclosure (claiming content is human-made when it's AI-generated) may violate consumer protection laws and platform terms of service. Always disclose AI involvement accurately.
